Houston Office Building Fire "Tenants Left in Limbo"
[Houston Chronicle 3/30/2007]

"Some hold out hope something can be salvaged; others know their office is a loss."
"Doctors, physical therapists, real estate agents and other tenants who served their patients and customers in the six-story North Loop building were busy Thursday trying to figure out where to do business after a deadly fire Wednesday night left the midrise unusable.

The structure was so damaged that fire officials refused to let tenants into the building to inspect their offices."[1]

Real estate agent Ledell Johnson, ... went back inside, grabbed the hard drive to his computer..." [1] This guy had to go back into a burning building to save his data! Another tenant had their files backed up on a remote server.

Which tenant are you?

If you know the answer and it is unsettling, or if you are not sure, this office building fire is a reminder that you need to address the issues of business continuity, " trying to figure out where to do business" and disaster recovery. You need a solution that does not involve running back into a burning building! Call or email us at EBS for help with business continuity planning and disaster recovery solutions. Call 71.522.3480

The new Microsoft Office User Interface - "The Ribbon"!

The traditional menus and toolbars have been replaced by the Ribbon — a new device that presents commands organized into a set of tabs. The tabs on the Ribbon display the commands that are most relevant for each of the task areas in the applications. For example, in Office Word 2007, the tabs group commands for activities such as inserting objects like pictures and tables, doing page layout, working with references, doing mailings, and reviewing.

Office Excel 2007 has a similar set of tabs that make sense for spreadsheet work including tabs for working with formulas, managing data, and reviewing.

These tabs simplify accessing application features because they organize the commands in a way that corresponds directly to the tasks people perform in these applications.

The new Microsoft Office User Interface![2]

The way users interact with Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook has been redesigned with the 2007 release to make it easier for users to find and use program capabilities.

The overall look and feel of these applications has been streamlined and new technologies introduced that present users with selections they can simply "browse, pick, and click" rather than go thru complicated dialog boxes.

A redesigned, more intuitive user interface speeds access to tasks through a tabbed “Ribbon” (see more on the "Ribbon" to the right) that organizes commands around specific scenarios or objects, Galleries that let you pick and click the results you want, and a new Live Preview feature you can use to see how a formatting or editing change will look before it’s made.
