Microsoft Small Business Server (SBS) is a packaged bundle of key network software marketed by Microsoft for small businesses. SBS standard includes Windows Server 2003, Exchange 2003, and FrontPage.

SBA Professional includes ISA Microsoft's software firewall and SQL Server the mission critical database from Microsoft as well as the components in the standard package.

SBS is an excellent network package for small businesses. While SBS can be used with up to 75 users it is probably not economical past about 15-20 users or so. While the base package cost is low the cost per additional user is steep.

Server Basics

Having a "server" usually refers in fact to the operating system on the server that creates and ties together the network - providing user authentication, shared resources, resource access controls, security and a myriad of features related to access, management and control of applications, files, data and devices.
